We had a full house - over 40 Scholars and alumni - for our first TuesdayTalk featuring Oliver alumni and trustees Angel Morales and Keith Canton here at 80 Maiden Lane!
Angel and Keith talked about their respective careers on Wall Street, the advantages of business school, and the importance of taking high school and college coursework seriously.
Keith E. Canton
Managing Director, Private Capital Markets Group, Investment Banking
Keith E. Canton is a Managing Director in the Private Capital Markets Group. He has been involved in all phases of private finance including origination, structuring, pricing and distribution, with an emphasis on private equity and PIPE financings across a wide range of industries.
Mr. Canton joined Barclays Capital from Lehman Brothers in 2008 where he was a member of the Private Capital Markets Group since 2002. Prior to Lehman Brothers, Mr. Canton was an Advertising Pricing Manager at Sports Illustrated. He has completed more than 60 private placement transactions, raising well over US$15 billion of private equity and debt on behalf of corporate clients.
Mr. Canton received an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Angel L. Morales
Managing Partner, North Cove Partners
Angel L. Morales serves as Managing Partner of North Cove Partners. Mr. Morales co-founded North Cove Partners in 2011 and focuses on its investment portfolio in the industrial, financial services and business services sectors. He served as Managing Director and co-Head of BAML Capital Partners, the internal private equity group of Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He joined Merrill Lynch’s Global Private Equity group (MLGPE) in 1996 as a member of the founding team. He has worked with early-stage businesses, middle-market companies as well as Fortune 500 firms in the United States and abroad. Mr. Morales was responsible for ten transactions during his career at Bank of America Merrill Lynch that generated a total profit of $1.3 billion and an Internal Rate of Return of 21%.
Mr. Morales currently serves as a Director and Audit Committee Chair of Aeolus Re, a global property catastrophe reinsurance company based in Bermuda. Mr. Morales served as a Director and Executive Committee member of The Hertz Corporation from 2010 to 2013. Hertz is a leading global car and equipment rental company that is publicly traded in the U.S. with a market capitalization over $12 billion. He also served as a Director and Strategic and Nomination Committee member of Rexel S.A. from 2011 to 2013. Rexel is a leading global electrical equipment distributor that is publicly traded in France with a market capitalization over $7 billion.
Mr. Morales previously served on a number of other Boards of Directors including: (i) Nuveen, a leading asset manager with more than $200 billion of Assets Under Management; (ii) National Powersport Auctions, a middle-market auctioneer of motorcycles and other powersports; (iii) Definity Health Corporation, the pioneer in consumer-driven healthcare benefit programs and a firm that was sold to UnitedHealth; and (iv) Sentillion, a leading healthcare information technology company that was sold to Microsoft.
Mr. Morales served on the Board and Finance Committee of the Bronx Preparatory Charter School, is active with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) and serves on the board of the Oliver Scholars Program in New York. He ran a men’s mentoring program for the Children’s Storefront School in Harlem, New York and founded a church-based scholarship for underprivileged students in New York City.
Mr. Morales holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and BA in Economics from Harvard University.
