History

Founded in 1984 by George School alumnus John Hoffman, with the support of New York City educator Albert G. Oliver, Oliver’s mission is to prepare outstanding African-American and Latino students from New York City for success at top independent high schools and prestigious colleges. Over the years, Oliver has built a renowned academic preparation program for our Pre-Scholars (grades 7-8) and built a crucial support system for our Scholars (grades 9-12) that includes counseling, campus visits, workshops, summer classes, internship opportunities, and a college guidance program. There are now over 1,200 Oliver alumni who have gone to top secondary schools and colleges.
